It was a very late afternoon and we walked up to the University Boulevard retention ponds. A gaggle of Canada geese playing in the water began honking very loudly towards the sky. We were startled to look up and see a huge blue bird was flying down and swiftly landing on the edge of the pond. OMG! It was a Great Blue Heron! It was not Ms. Ana Costia. This one looked taller and bigger than her, so it was probably a male. He was so generous that he let us admire him from just 10 feet away. So, I could take some decent shots, including the moment when he snatched a fish for his dinner. We named him Norm, as in Norm from the TV show “Cheers.” Check out the full story on the encounter with Norm, including some poems. (February 2, 2020.)
