The Wheaton Branch Stormwater Management Ponds near Dennis Avenue is another our favorite wetlands. It’s like a wildlife visitor center along Sligo Creek Trail. On a sunny Saturday morning, I made a new wildlife friend here: a red-breasted merganser. Unlike many of my Canada goose friends, she was alone. She looked a bit lonely but still enjoyed herself. I hope she didn’t mind me staring at her for an hour to capture her behavior from every possible angle. (April 17, 2021)
