On a stormy day, this gorgeous Green Heron visited the stormwater runoff ponds near the University boulevard of the Sligo Creek, searching for food. I didn’t realize how small this bird was, especially compared to the Great Blue Heron: I was fortunate to capture a moment when the Green Heron was flying by a mallard couple, and I was surprised to see it’s even smaller than a mallard. Also, here is one thing I learned about a Green Heron. This heron sometimes uses a bait, such as a small twig, a feather, or even an insect, to lure its prey. What a clever bird!
